TESTAMENT TO EDWARD BARRON-- SURROGATE JUDGE OF HIS MAJESTIES COURT OF WILLS AND PROBATE FOR THE COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND.

KNOW TO ALL MEN, by these presents that we Margaret Dewthwaite, Widow and Administratix of James Douthwaite late Deceased. And Thomas Susby and Thomas Coates both of said Amherst, Yeomen.

Are held and firmly bound unto Edward Barron the full sum of Two hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Nova Scotia. to be paid to him, the said Edward Barron or his Successors in Office so the said payment well and truly be made; we bind Ourselves and our Heirs, Executors, and Adminstrators, Jointly, Severally and Firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our seal, dated this Twenty sixth day of April in the Thirty Second year of the Reign of King George The Third and in the year of Our Lord, One thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Two.

THE CONDITION of this obligation is such that if the above burden to Margaret Douthwaite, Administratix of all and Singular the goods, Chattles and Credits of James Douthwaite, late, of Amherst in the County of Cumberland aforesaid deceased, do make or cause to be made trial of perfect Inventory of all and Singular the goods, Chattles, and Credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands of Professionals of Power of any other Peson or Personas before him on his behalf and the same is made to exhibit into the Registry of Our Court of Will and Probates at such time as shall be required bt the said Court, and the said Goods, Chattles, and Credits of the said deceased, which at the time of his death or any time after shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of any other person or person for him or in his behalf do well and faithfully Administer According to law and further do make a just account of the same when thereto called by the said Court and the rest and Residence of the said goods, Chattles, and Credits which shall be found remaining on said Margaret Dewthwaite's acount. The same being exammined by the said Court shall pay so the next of kin to the said Deceased or the said Court shall deal with any dispute that shall arise pursuant to the law in that case made and provided. And if it shall happen hereafter to appear any last Will and Testament was made by the said Deceased and any executor or executrix therein named do exhibit the same into the court and make request to have the same proved and allowed by the Court shall then being thereunto acquired deliver afforesaid Administration. Approbabation of said Last Will and Testament being first made then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force by virtue of law.

Lucy MARTYN (freed African American slave)

"Sennacherib Martyn was a captain in Winslow's expedition to capture Fort Beausejour. He brought with him to Westmoreland Point, as slaves, a negro family, to whom he afterwards gave their freedom, and gave them also his name (now spelled Martin). Captain Martyn married the widow Oulton and settled in Jolicure. He was godfather to George and Elizabeth, the children of Col. William Allan."
