May 29,1907 - Child Badly Burned (The Albert Journal)> > > Greta five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chandler Douthrite of > Hillsboro received a very bad burn one day last week. While her mother was busy > with household duties the little girl without the knowledge of her mother > secured some matches and was trying to light a fire in the yard around the > house, when the burning match ignited the light inflammable material of her > dress. The cries of the child attracted Mr. Bliss Douthrite, who was not far > distant, but before he could get the fire extinguished the little girl was > badly burned about the arms, side, neck and face. Dr Marven was called and > found the burns to be a very serious nature and fatal ending was feared > but the latest reports indicate that there are good prospects for the little > girl’s recovery. Had not Mr. Douthrite succeeded in getting the fire out as > soon as he did the child would have been burned to death. In putting out > the flames Mr. Douthrite suffered burns about the hands but his heroic > effort saved a life.
